The trunks and bark of the chestnut trees in Crackley Woods twist dramatically creating irresistable sculptural forms. Ecologically, they are much less valuable to wildlife than the English Oak, and are considered non – native, having been introduced by the Romans. Their edible nuts are much appreciated by animals and humans alike, though.
