Towering Tree of Funghi
In the centre of Crackley Wood I discovered a towering tree of funghi glowing vivid orange against the snow. Conservation workers had ringbarked the tree with a chainsaw to encourage the fungal growth. Standing dead wood provides important habitat and is a vital component of the woodland mix. Experts at the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust have confirmed this funghi is called Hairy Curtain Crust.
